The hum of the air conditioner, the rhythmic click of the keyboard, the quiet rustle of papers… all these sounds contributed to a sense of focused calm. I was finally getting through my work, and the feeling was satisfying. My mind felt clear, my body relaxed.

Mrs. Rodriguez, who lived next door, was always friendly, but she appeared to be struggling. Her house was in disrepair, and she seemed to work several jobs to make ends meet. She always seemed tired, but always smiled.
